This drawing is of a Greek portrait sculpture of Emperor Caracalla dating from 215-217 in the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri. Caracalla was emperor from 198 to 217 C.E. Caracalla was known to be one of the cruelest tyrants in Roman history. His nickname ("Caracalla") comes form the hooded tunic that he wore and made popular.

I had wanted to do a different kind of drawing, using opposing colors (red/green) to reflect warm and cool hues, and tried a more energetic drawing style while capturing an accurate representation of the subject.

The drawing was executed in permanent magic marker on white drawing paper.
